Whether they perform live or in recording studios, people talented enough to work as singers bring the words and notes on sheet music to life. They play one or more instruments or sing. They combine lyrics and melodies to communicate thoughts and emotions.

A singing career take hard work and dedication and a confidence to perform for others. Musicians and singers usually gravitate toward a particular type of music, such as country, rock, pop, classical, rhythm and blues or reggae. Instruments range from voice to oboe, drums and violin.

A singer uses one or more vocal ranges, such as alto, soprano, baritone or bass in certain music styles. 9. Seek out and learn new music that is suitable for live performance and/or recording.
10. Collaborate with a manager or agent who handles administrative details, finds work, and negotiates contracts
11. Learn acting, dancing, and other skills required for dramatic singing roles
12. Research particular roles to find out more about a character, or the time and place in which a piece is set

Qualifications and training required:

There are no educational requirements to become a singer; however, enrolling in a bachelor's degree program will provide individuals with professional training in the field. In addition to having the talent to sing and perform, singers will also need to market themselves and look for work opportunities.

Bachelor's degree programs in music with a vocal emphasis can help singers develop their voices in a variety of performance atmospheres. These programs emphasize various aspects of the craft, including theory, performance and history. Though a degree in music isn't required for a professional singing career for popular music, the knowledge it imparts can be of great use to aspiring musicians.
